Which remote access solution is built into macOS?
Apple Remote Desktop is included in macOS for screen sharing and remote control of Mac computers. However, it is limited to the Mac platform only. Dameware provides a cross-platform remote control solution for Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile devices, allowing unified support using a single tool. How to remote access a Mac with Dameware software?
With Dameware Remote Support (DRS), you can remotely access a Mac using built-in VNC connectivity that allows screen viewing and control.
The VNC Viewer in the Remote Connect dialog makes it easy to connect from Windows OS to Mac OS X and send keyboard and mouse inputs remotely from one computer to the other. Use VNC Viewer to remotely control Mac computers, see exactly what is on the end-user’s screen, and provide the necessary troubleshooting and assistance. Dameware DRS stores the VNC credentials on a client-by-client basis, not by connection type, and ensures the stored credentials are valid for that client’s connection.
Dameware Remote Everywhere (DRE) offers a native macOS agent for optimized remote control of Mac devices. This provides more seamless OS integration and management capabilities. There are two basic methods to remotely control Mac computers.
- Applet
For one-off remote support sessions, end-user can easily install Mac applet prior a remote support session through StartControl. This method doesn’t require administrative permissions and its run without installation, but it still requires a PIN code to start a remote session and allow remote control for Mac.
- Agent
The agent needs to be installed on every Mac device you want to remotely control. Once the technician adds the device in technician console, end-user can install the agent on the device through StartControl. PIN generated by the technician in DRE technician console is needed for verification and is unique for each installation.. Alternatively, technician can also install agent silently and in batch.
Once installed, the DRE agent allows remote control of the Mac through the DRE technician console. When starting a session, the Remote Viewer provides system information, chat, file transfer and other tools for controlling the Mac remotely. You can record sessions, take screenshots, optimize bandwidth and visibility, and configure other preferences for the remote control experience.
Key DRE features like VoIP calling, password retrieval, secure notes and more create a seamless remote support experience for Mac devices. The native macOS integration makes DRE an ideal solution for remotely managing and troubleshooting Mac computers and other Apple devices from Windows and cross-platform environments.
